Dragonfly dreams

You always need ‘thank you’ cards and it is always wise to have some ready to go. The Dragonfly Dreams stamp set from Stampin’ Up! is perfect for just this. The images are beautiful and the sentiments are really versatile, meaning you can make some really classy cards very quickly if you need to!

Dragonfly dreams

This card is heading out to a very special lady, a fellow crafter who sent me the most marvellous gift. Check out her crafty blog here.

One of the stamps in the set is the dotty cluster, which I have used here to create the background of the card, I just kept stamping it at different angles until I felt I had the right coverage.  I have to be honest – I made a mistake where I was using a post-it to mask off and area and the ink went through the post-it onto my card.  Rather than start again, I continued to stamp onto the post-it all over the entire background, which added a more distressed look.

I then stamped the outline image of the dragonfly and used this as a guide to stamp the layering stamp, for which I used two different colours.  To add some shimmer, I used a Wink of Stella pen on the wings.  I used coordinating cardstock to create the matts and then added ribbon and the beautiful sequin trim to finish.

The nature of the sentiments means you can stamp the second part of the sentiment inside the card, this one reads “You sure know how to make someone happy”.

And here is a totally different look.  I kept it really clean and simple, just stamping the bee image and sentiment.  I had to do some masking to be able to stamp the body and wings in the two colours, but this was incredibly easy and quick to do.  Again, I added some Wink of Stella to the wings to add a bit of shimmer.  I loved this simple card so much I made another:

I thought it would be lovely to make a set of these using different sentiments…  Maybe another project to follow in the future!  The only extra step with this card was to stamp the solid image of the bee’s body first in white ink and allow this to dry, in order to keep the coloured inks nice and vibrant.

I will be using this bee again in my next post, to make a lovely gift wrap and card set.
