A friend challenged me recently to create two cards from one stamp set – one Christmas themed and one not. One of the most versatile sets I have is Jar of Love from Stampin’ Up! so this was my go to set. I wanted to only use this set, but that meant I was limited when it came to choosing a sentiment, so I opted to make a winter themed card, instead of a Christmas specific card.
I love to take one of the smaller, usually more decorative stamps from a set and turn it into a feature image. I was playing with the tiny leaf stamp and realised that I could use it to create a snowflake image by repeat stamping it around a point. I stamped my snowflake first then used a circle die to cut it out. I used a larger circle die to cut a frame in a coordinating cardstock, and layered this onto a card front on top of the ribbon and sequin thread. I stamped my sentiment onto a strip of vellum and embossed it in silver. To adhere this to the snowflake, I used a wet glue and dabbed the glue behind the stamping, to stop the glue showing through the vellum. To finish the card I created a silver mat by using the same embossing powder, and added a sequin to the centre of the sentiment.
For my second card I wanted to use the same two stamps and basic elements and create a card with a completely different look. I chose an autumnal colour pallet and cut a small rectangle from a variety of cardstocks. I stamped in Versamark and embossed with a clear powder, to let the colours shine through. I adhered these using Dimensionals above a strip of burlap ribbon and gold sequin thread. The sentiment is embossed in gold to tie in with the sequins.
What do you think? Two completely different cards using two stamps from one stamp set. I had great fun!
